The 17u Viking Vanguard travelled to Sturgeon Falls this past weekend to compete in their second event of their season, the McGregor Cup. The girls went undefeated in pool play, finishing first in their pool with wins over North Bay Lakers Blue, and Vision Clear. In the first playoff game of the afternoon the Vanguard faced a tough Georgian Cubs Shock team. The Vanguard dropped a close first set 20-25, and showed real maturity and focus to come back and win the next two sets to move to the semi-finals. In the semi’s they faced another Vision team, they played hard in the first set, and came up just short loosing 26-24, and the second 25-15. Vision went on to win gold in this one. The Vanguard regrouped, refocused and came out on fire against the Barrie Elites Blackout. They kept their foot on the gas and won 25-21, 25-19 to claim bronze. Congrats to all athletes.
