The 17u Vanguard were in Kanata for their Bugarski Cup. They finished morning pool play undefeated with wins over the Maverick Aces, and Kingston Rock Grit. This was quite an accomplishment and meant that the Vanguard didn’t loose a single pool match all season. In their quarter final matchup they faced a tough Cornwall Vikings Valhalla team, winning in three sets 25-14, 19-25, 15-9. This moved them into the semi-finals against the Maverick Gamblers. The girls fought had and lost a heartbreaker in the third set with scores 25-19, 19-25, 14-16. In the bronze medal match they faced a refocused Kingston Rock Grit team. This was a closely contested matchup, that was a nail biter right till the last point. The first two sets were 26-24, and 23-25. In the third set Kingston came out swinging taking an early lead of 9-2, but the Vanguard demonstrated their own grit and battled back to win 15-13 and claim bronze. Congrats to all athletes on an incredible day.
